Melodic Echos

Few of us recall the warm melodic echoes of steam train whistles, softly draping through the evening sky like a rolling fog. And for those few, these memories slowly are slipping away. Help us bring back the Steam Railway Adventure to revive those memories.

Miniature?

Though small in stature, the miniature steam railway will bring excitement far beyond its size. Its detail will be authentic and precise. The word “miniature” dissipates once you see the bright eyes and hear the joyous laughter of children.

History

ALL ABOARD! THE MINIATURE STEAM RAILWAY ADVENTURE IS COMING!

Being Proposed! A new RAILWAY ADVENTURE ride, to be powered by an authentic miniature narrow gauge steam engine! The miniature steam train will provide a unique and fun adventure ride through a park like setting. It may soon be built if we can find a location to build it?

This authentic miniature 15-inch narrow gauge steam powered train would transport you, your family, and friends from a 1900s-era boarding depot to possibly a historic preservation setting, which will take you even further back in time. The railway adventure will ideally meander for several miles around trees, through tunnels and over bridges, like a lazy river slowing down time. Riding the railway is a journey back in time, when rail travel was the height of fashion, and experienced by all our ancestors. You too may, for the first time, be able to experience the sound of the clickety-clack, the shrill of the steam whistle, the tingle of the bell ringing, and the panting of the engine. You will experience the thrill of the wonders of steam power, while traversing nature’s wonderland!

Towns being considered are Waxhaw, Indian Trail, and other sites in the greater Charlotte area. Know of any other interesting locations?

Operating all summer and most holidays with weekend service when school is in session, the miniature train will provide an exciting destination for people of all ages!

Please contact us: let us know where you would like to see it run! The train located in your area would increase tourism in the range of 75,000 to 150,000 visitors a year based on actual ridership figures of similar trains that are currently operating. History

One reason that Waxhaw could be a great fit for the miniature railway is that it has a rich railroad history. For example, did you know that locally born Andrew Jackson was the first President of the United States to ride a train while in office?

The town of Waxhaw was given its name by the railroad, the Georgia, Carolina, and Northern when it arrived in 1888. Each station along the tracks has a name, and the railroad had selected another to have the name Waxhaw, but the locals complained, and so they finally assigned the name to the station now known as Waxhaw. The other town further down the line had to select another name. Sadly, the railway rejected that name, and so the other town had to select a third name.

Waxhaw is unique in that the railroad still traverses right through the middle of town. In most other cities, the train tracks have been relegated to the "bad" part of town, but not in Waxhaw. It was the railway that created the economic engine that created the downtown so many know and love to this day. Even today, Waxhaw, from the bridge, is a favorite location of many when it comes to train watching (with 20-25 trains a day). The placement of a miniature railway in downtown could again be an economic engine to help preserve the old historic town and buildings and be the catalyst to help it prosper like no other small town of similar size in North Carolina.

The 125th anniversary of the arrival of the first train in Waxhaw is about to take place. Wouldn't it be fantastic if another steam train like the original began running in the old town. The original train brought people from all around to shop at Niven-Price, the Farmer's Store, Belk and others. A new miniature train would bring people and families to whatever town the railway is built.
